My feature interview for last week’s Alive was with Julian Hamilton of The Presets. He’s a very nice guy and it was good to chat to him again.
I last interviewed The Presets for YEN Magazine many moons ago, inside Modular’s headquarters in Sydney. That interview was for their hit record Apocalypso. I recall the Mod HQ being pretty cool. It was tucked away up an alley and some stairs somewhere near Surry Hills. Hard to find unless you knew where to look. I interviewed Kim and Julian in the boardroom.
I think The Presets are very clever and inventive songwriters and considering that they’re both classically trained musicians, it’s nice to hear more organic instruments creep into their tunes on new record Pacifica. I think ‘Promises’ is one of the best tunes they’ve released – a truly sublime pop song.
